A mare has to be "in season" before she'll allow a Stallion near her....so NO it isn't rape. Sometimes mares have to be held to stop them kicking at the Stallion in nasty foreplay and with the amount of money involved with horses they can't afford for the Stallion to risk a major injury hence the need for human intervention with some mares, plus they also need to know if the service has been a success for paying mares. Google how breeding is done in Studs...you'll all understand more then.
